An Open Request to " gurram_forums "

Would you please stop posting meaningless comments to old threads. Every time you do, it causes these threads to rise to the top of the list, thus obscuring legitimate requests for help.

This is not a playground - it is a technical resource, though the majority of us do manage to have a bit of fun while we're trying to help others.

Re: An Open Request to " gurram_forums "

Well said Pete.

I can't believe the old threads (6 months or more) where someone posts a meaningless comment.

I have even seen people post to old congrats threads....

I wonder if there is a way for HP to automagically close any thread once it is say....6 months old?

Re: An Open Request to " gurram_forums "

Shalom,

I can understand the difficulty in not making thread rise automatic.

A simple solution would be comments to closed threads not bumping the thread, but some of us don't believe in closing threads.

Awaiting HP's response.

Re: An Open Request to " gurram_forums "

then there's the individual that is posting the "I've got the same problem. Did you find a solution?" on threads 6mo - 3 years old. some w/ bunnies and some without.

tried explaining that he should start a new thread to no avail.

Re: An Open Request to " gurram_forums "

Oh, crud, I just fell for it. On the previously mentioned congrats page. I need to check those original post dates. Once again, I'd *REALLY* like the ability to edit previous postings.

@v.nyga - yep..that I understood. It just seems that for some reason, a lot of the newer users aren't reading/following the accepted "etiquette".

Re: An Open Request to " gurram_forums "

Hi Folks:

Ah, two comments:

1. You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink. [ Users will be users as we all know and do as they please ]

2. I would NOT want to see closed or old (of some age) threads NOT bubble to the top of the heap. I find that on occassion, someone actually does post a useful, germane update to an old thread, and its nice to see.

Regards to all!

Re: An Open Request to " gurram_forums "

Thanks, Jim (May I call you Jim?),

I must respond:

1. Absolutely true, though I don't think we've seen anything from " gurram_forums " (interesting moniker, don't you think?) since I posted this, so maybe it had the desired effect.

2. I have to agree. It would certainly not serve our purpose to not have threads bubble to the surface, no matter the circumstances.

Cheers!

Re: An Open Request to " gurram_forums "

You know what could be usefull to keep this forum ending up like others ?

Have a rating column along with the thread ? Allow not just the origionator but others rate the contents of the thread.

This might help others when searching for answers to skip the poor unfinished/no resolution threads and sort by rating ?

The above has nothing to do with Pete's origional subject. So just so I can maybe have 3 pts.

I agree with everyone :) Check the origional post date and determine if your input is any longer valid to a requestor that has probably moved on in life ;)

Hi Pete:

> Thanks, Jim (May I call you Jim?),

But of course! I'm glad you saw fit to post your thread in the first place. Maybe (just maybe?) others will stop, look and listen :-)

Warmest regards to you, too!

Re: An Open Request to " gurram_forums "

He's posted three times on the same congratulations thread today. This suggests he's a troll.

Do HP monitor posts? If so, can we hope for hime to be forcibly ejected?

It seems nobody has added a reply to the Moderator intervention thread about this user:

Re: An Open Request to " gurram_forums "

I was thinking the same thing myself. If no one else has done so, I'll post to the Issues thread this morning.

While I'm at it, I'll ask if they can back-date this thread. Maybe if it appeared to be from 2002 or so, our friend gurram would notice it!

I think there is nothing which can stop him doing this...

See one more thread after you guys started discussing about him:

Just a tad annoying. It's not as though he could get any points, as that thread's already closed !

Re: An Open Request to " gurram_forums "

I know HP would never go for this, but maybe something like what ebay does - have a rating system for users.

So, if I post to a thread, the owner can give me a positive or negative rating - on top of the points.

For example, someone like Pete would be up around 98% positive (why not 100 - I don't know - maybe gurram gives you a negative rating LOL) and the gurram would be around 5%!

Re: An Open Request to " gurram_forums "

Unfortunately, Geoff, a reaction (such as this thread?) is probably exactly what he wants - in which case a rating of 5% wouldn't bother him in the slightest.
