Another question about LVM and pvmove

The other day I asked a question about LVM and using pvmove on 11.11 to move a LUN on a striped lvol to a different LUN.
http://forums11.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=1324123
Is there a version of LVM that runs on 11.11 that will allow me to change the striping on-the-fly from my current number to 1 (ie no striping)? If so then I could restripe, use pvmove, then restripe again.

Re: Another question about LVM and pvmove

Once an LV is striped, you are stuck with that configuration. There is no way to turn off striping.

you will have to stick with it.

Re: Another question about LVM and pvmove

Dave,

Given what you are trying to do here, I'm pretty sure there used to be some service from HP which used Auto LUN XP to allow you to seamlessly migrate front end LUNs to completely different back-end LDEVs without interrupting IO to the LUNs. Have you asked your local HP storage service rep about that?

Re: Another question about LVM and pvmove

Thanks Duncan, I was beginning to think I am finally loosing my mind. I was prepared to bet money there was a way to change the striping of a lvol on-the-fly. Perhaps I am thinking of some other process to move this LUN on-the-fly. I am going down the path of testing pvmove on 11.23 (0609). If that works I am looking at an OS upgrade. That will be a lot of work, but not a bad thing. I do not remember when the EOL of 11.11 is, but it cannot be too far in the future. Better to WANT to move off 11.11 than HAVE TO move off 11.11.

Re: Another question about LVM and pvmove

Dave,

true, but the bad news is the end of support date for 11.23 is exactly the same as the end of support date for 11.23 (end of 2013):

But of course an upgrade from 11.23 to 11.31 is much easier than from 11.11 to 11.31... so not a complete waste of time

Re: Another question about LVM and pvmove

OK, warning stupid question time. I looked at the link you gave. It shows an end of sales for 11.3 of 12-2012 and EOF of 12-2017. Why does it not say anything about a next version of HP-UX? Is there going to be a next version? Have a missed some VERY important announcement about the end of HP-UX all together?

That would be 11.41.

When is 11.41 expected to be released? I am fine with just knowing the year.

That info hasn't been announced.
