When I look at the network interface in SAM it indicates that auto-negotiate is ON.
Is there anything special I should do when we unplug and plugin to the new switch? I'm assuming everything will just synch up and no reboot is necessary?
Thanks in advance,
Tim

Re: Any gotchas migrating to Gigabit?
Before you do this, check the config file that will be used, presumably this one.
gelan hpgelanconf GigaBit card A4926A
Note what changes it has made. Seeing it is set to auto-negotiate, you shouldn't have too many problems.

Re: Any gotchas migrating to Gigabit?
Make sure that you haven't locked the card in to 100FD in a conf file. And yes, at least on 1000-SX (fibre) cards 1000 auto-on is mandatory, but fibre may be different than copper. We only run 1000-SX here.
Another advisory would be to make sure you're current on drivers. We got some new 7410s in withe some new (I think 6487A?) 1000-SX cards & ignited them with Sep '02 patched images & the driver wasn't correct. They reported as 1000-TX devices via ioscan & would not sync up to the switch. We put Dec '02 HWE on & all was then well.

Jeff

Re: Any gotchas migrating to Gigabit?
Michael - What is this gelan file you refer to? Where is it located?
The only config file I've ever messed with is /etc/rc.config.d/netconf?
Thanks

Re: Any gotchas migrating to Gigabit?
I can't seem to find anything in netstat or lanscan. I guess Sam reports it though.
Thanks

Re: Any gotchas migrating to Gigabit?
/etc/rc.config.d/hpgelanconf
This is what I was saying about the conf file. This is where you lock the speed/duplex settings at boot.
And the command to check it would be
lanadmin -x Y
where Y=PPA i.e. 0 for lan0, 3 for lan3, etc.
HTH,
Jeff

Re: Any gotchas migrating to Gigabit?
1. Install Card into Turbo Slot
2. Make sure you have the March 2002 Quality Pack installed.
3. Verify these packages are installed on your system: PHKL_24729, PHCO_25902 and PHNE_26250. If not, there are several dependency to eack package.
4. Install driver from the latest HP Application CD1.
5. Verify the new pci card and its hardware path are displayed by executing the command: ioscan. Run the System Administration Manager: sam. Double Click on Networking and Communications. Double Click Network Interface Cards. Highlight the Gigabit Ethernet card and choose Configure from the actions menu. Fill in the Network Card Configuration worksheet: enter in the ip address, and subnet mask. Activate the OK button to activate the card and then select exit from the "file" menu until you exit SAM. Edit /etc/rc.config.d/netconf and change the Route Gateway from its original address to the new address.

Re: Any gotchas migrating to Gigabit?
on my rp2470's with the same Ethernetcard, the igelan drivers are used instead of gelan. All works fine.
I do not know the difference, however.
Maybe someone?

Re: Any gotchas migrating to Gigabit?
It configures just like any other network card.

Re: Any gotchas migrating to Gigabit?
Correction - Those new 1000-SX cards were:
A6847-60101 PCI 1000Base-SX Adapters
