I'm trying to set up nic failover with the Auto Port Aggregation software. When I run the lanapplyconf command I get the following output:
#lanapplyconf
Reading ASCII file /etc/lanmon/lanconfig.ascii
Creating Fail-Over Group lan900
ERROR: Could not add Port 0 to Fail-Over Group lan900
ERROR: APA could not set LM Configuration for Fail-Over Group lan900. APA errno.
ERROR: Creating Fail-Over Group failed lan900
Exiting: Error applying all of input file /etc/lanmon/lanconfig.ascii.
lanqueryconf -s and lancheckconf report no errors.

Re: APA & nic failover
lanapplyconf reads the information in a configuration file, forms failover groups with it as described in the configuration file, and switches the IP address from the primary port to the failover group. The default configuration file is /etc/lanmon/lanconfig.ascii.
If at least one failover group was created, the command succeeds. If lanapplyconf printed warning or error messages, then some or all of the failover groups may not be created. Check if all configured FOGs are created.

Solution
Another often found gotcha is switch configuration.
Cisco and other routers by default have a problem with an IP address being available on more than one port.
They have to be manually configured to permit this. See your network admin for this.

Re: APA & nic failover
Steven,
I'm aware of this need, but don't know exactly what to tell the network admin. We are using cisco switches, but he's giving me a blank look when I mention this. Any phrase or terminology that might shake loose his memory?
