APA configuration

APA configuration

We recently had a switch freeze but did not loose connectivity to our servers. We however were unable to ping the servers because the nic card still had link light and APA did not failover to the second nic.

Can APA be setup differently so that I don't run into this situation again?

Re: APA configuration

What config are you using ? Hot Standby ?

How about an active aggregate. Two or more nics trunked together splitting the load ?

Re: APA configuration

I find it strange that you say the servers didn't loose connectivity, but you couldn't ping them. My question is whether yuo had the failover nic plugged into a different switch? if you have both nic's plug into the same switch then you didn't remove a single point of failure.

Re: APA configuration

Both NIC's are plugged into seperate switches. When the one switch froze, the NIC on the server never lost its link light / connectivity to the frozen switch, however I could no longer ping because it did not failover to the second NIC.

Re: APA configuration

All i can say is to check your apa config and make sure it is setup properly. You might want to test it in off hours by pulling a cable.
