APA link cannot be configured
I'm trying to configure an APA link but all trials failed.
HP-UX 11.11 is installed. APA release is 11.11.07.
First, I modified hp_apaconf and hp_apaportconf in /etc/rc.config.d and launched /sbin/init.d/hpapa. But it failed.
I tried some diferent configurations... they all failed.
note: no cable is plugged in both physical PPAs . ¿ is it required ?
I used SAM to configure... failed.
Questions:
1) Plugged cables in NIC are required to setup an APA link ?
2) lanscan command shows some APA links, even if /sbin/init.d/hpapa script hasn't be launched to configure them. ¿ is it right ?
In my previous experience with APA on HP-UX 11.00, the APA links ONLY were shown when /sbin/init.d/hpapa script was executed. If this script was executed with "stop" arg, the APA links disappeared... I guess the behaviour in HP-UX 11.11 is diferent
Thank you

Re: APA link cannot be configured
First Question : yes you need a network connectivity. A had a problem some time a go with a bad network port. It was solved by change it to another switch port.
So plug in your cables and retry your configuration please.

Re: APA link cannot be configured
I will look for your specific answers and post in a minute, but please look at this document which shows steps to configure APA:

Re: APA link cannot be configured
It would be rather better if the ports are connected to the same vlan or switch, as you can atleast verify whether the ports are fine using linkloop test.
But, whether its is mandatory to be connected?.. that i'm not too sure because i do not know what does "lanapplyconf" command does while configuring. Just checking may be it indeed tests the "Same Vlan" scenario internally while configuring and hence it fails.
By the way as a point adder.. make sure both the LAN card is configured for same speed and duplex configs. This u can make sure by
1) lanadmin -x PPA (0,1,2...)
lanadmin -s PPA
Note: basically the Lan cards to be APA'ed should have same characteristics.
Please note that though you can alter the characteristics transiently by lanadmin command, you could make it permenent by editing a specific file in /etc/rc.config.d/ directory.
For this purpose make sure you find the driver managing you lan card's. In my case it was btlan, hence I would edit /etc/rc.config.d/btlanconf file to make it permenent.

Re: APA link cannot be configured
A: Yes for old APA versions.
With the latest patch, this is NOT required. I would encourage you to use the latest release.
2) lanscan command shows some APA links, even if /sbin/init.d/hpapa script hasn't be launched to configure them. ¿ is it right ?
A: There will always be (at least) five APA link aggregates displayed by "lanscan". I think this is the same with 11.00. Only the starting PPA number is different: 100 for 11.00, and 900 for 11.11.
Hope this helps and best regards,
Xianjie
