APA problem in 11iv3

I have one rx3600 box, it has two NIC cards, i would like combine these 2 NICs and create one aggregate NIC.

While installing 11iv3, i have not assigned IP address to either lano nor lan1.

Invoked text based SMH from console, and configured APA.

When the box boots every time, the APA services fails.

I just want to have load balance between two NICs so that bandwidth will increase.

Shalom,

There may be nothing wrong. One of the network interfaces is not working.

Run lanscan to see what interfaces are up and adjust your configuration file if needed.

A few suggestions:

put lan0 and lan1 in separate aggregates.

Configure a failover group in /etc/lanmon/lanconfig.ascii that uses one aggregate as a primary and the other as a secondary.

Something like this:
FAILOVER_GROUP lan902
STATIONARY_IP 1.2.3.4
PRIMARY lan900 5
STANDBY lan901 3

In /etc/rc.config.d/netconf, configure the failover interface to start:

INTERFACE_NAME[0]="lan902"
IP_ADDRESS[0]="1.2.3.4"
SUBNET_MASK[0]="255.255.255.0"

This will load balance lan0 & lan1 and also failover if one or the other goes down.

The one which i created does not do load balance. Will it not give the link bandwidth of 200Mbps ?

Since i use only lan900, i don't want APA specific commands should show 901,2,3,4 and 5.

Try removing all of the 'HP_APA_GROUP_CAPABILITY' settings from your configuration files. This is used only in FEC mode. Maybe this is why the startup script is looking for a failover group in /etc/lanmon/lanconfig.ascii.

A cuople things, some more nitpicking than others.

What you have is a single, dual-port NIC, not a pair of NICs.

When you put two or more links active into an aggregate, keep in mind that what is increased is the _aggregate_ performance. The performance of a single flow (ie tcp connection) will not be greater than one link's worth. Having selected the MAC address based load balancing, all traffic to the same MAC address will flow through the same link in the aggregate going out of the system. Coming in to the system will depend on the settings on your switch.

If you need something else, there should be information about packet scheduling algorithms in the APA manuals, which last I knew were at docs.hp.com.
