APA Questions

I am new to APA. We have been reading about it and deciding whether this is something we want to incorporate into out environment. May things I have read seem to contradict each other and was hoping that I could ask a few questions to clarify the things I have read.

1. Does APA support half duplex. I have read yes and no.

2. Is APA on the application CD's or do you need to pay additional for it and get a codeword to unlock the software?

3. If I am running LACP and I have 2 cards defined, if one fails, will everything run through the other card without intervention?

Any help or experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Kim

Re: APA Questions

Kim,

Many of your questions may be answered in this guide:

http://www.docs.hp.com/hpux/onlinedocs/J4240-90025/J4240-90025.html

Also, it is a purchasable product:

Hope this helps.

Re: APA Questions

1. Does APA support half duplex. I have read yes and no.

Depends on how you are going to aggregate your ports. If you do it with Manual mode (Not LACP or FEC, Cisco's Fast Ethernet Channel), or you only want network HA with LAN Monitor, half-duplex is supported.

LACP (IEEE 802.3ad standard) requires full-duplex. FEC also recommends full-duplex.

2. Is APA on the application CD's or do you need to pay additional for it and get a codeword to unlock the software?

You need to pay and buy the license from HP.
For 11i v2, you can buy and download the depot online.

3. If I am running LACP and I have 2 cards defined, if one fails, will everything run through the other card without intervention?

Yes, all traffic will run through the remaining card without any intervention.
