Hello,
Our customer has an rx6600 server running HP-UX 11i v2 . The server includes one PCI/PIC-X dual ports NIC 1000T BASE.
1- could we configure a failover group using APA software on a single dual port NIC.
2- In case yes, the new lan ( lan900 ) will have a speed of 1000 or 2000.
Please advise.

SolutionIf you configure 2 ports from the same card as a failover group you will be protected only from the switch port failure. Better idea is to use different NIC adapters.
When configuring in failover mode (LAN_MONITOR) the port speed is not aggregated - dual 1GB card will operate as a single 1GB card.

Yes.You can. But still single point of failure exists. If card itself fails there is redundancy. So it is better to use different controllers for aggregation.

If you configure aggregation, the aggregate speed will be 2000Mbps.

There is no redundancy if card itself fails.
So read as below.
Yes.You can. But still single point of failure exists. If card itself fails there is NO redundancy. So it is better to use different controllers for aggregation.

If you go with one NIC card the maximum theoretical speed is 1000Mbps. If you go with two 1000Mbps cards you can reach a theoretical speed of 2000Mbps. Though switch configuration and quality has a lot to do with actual results.
A dual port NIC does have a theoretical stop speed of 2000Mbps with APA. Your mileage may vary.

A "flow" will either be:
*) all traffic to a given MAC (Ethernet address)
or
*) all traffic to a given IP address
or
*) all traffic on a given TCP connection
depending on the packet scheduling algorithm you tell APA to use. It will also depend on the behaviour of the switch(es) involved - APA will control how traffic _leaves_ the host, the switch controls how it _enters_.
If you need a single "flow" (connection) to go faster than Gigabit Ethernet speeds you should consider an upgrade to 10 Gigabit Ethernet for your system. If it is an all-PCI-X system then I would suggest the AD385A. If it has PCIe slots then I would suggest the AD386A.
