Assigning a doman name to rp4440

How do you assign a doman name after OS has been installed?

I am working with HP-UX 11.11 on a rp4440.
I am having trouble with my Application Server redirecting the right url and want to setup the server with a domain name.

It's really no more complicated than editing /etc/resolv.conf and adding:
domain mickeymouse.com
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: Assigning a doman name to rp4440

If your application server is on different system also test for the DNS functionality. The nsswitch.conf file should be modified to put DNS first in line starting with the word hosts: so that
a DNS is consulted before trying any other host name resolution method.

Re: Assigning a doman name to rp4440

If you make the change by editing /etc/resolv.conf manually, remember to edit /etc/hosts too.

/etc/hosts should always contain the host's own name(s), in both short and fully-qualified forms.

The standard way would be to put the fully-qualified name first.

Re: Assigning a doman name to rp4440

Thank you all for your knowledge. I was able to add my IP address, Hostname and fully Qualified name to our DNS. With know problems.

Also, I made sure I created a resolv.conf file with the nameserver = to IP

Then I was ablt to execute my OAS.

Thanks Alot!
