Assigning IP Address to serial interface
Hi all,
My requirement is like this,
I have a D-class machine, First i would like to configure the modem and then when some one dials to the machine a different IP ADDRESS should be allocated, that will be a different IP address from the reqular IP Address, so that he doesnt have access to the network,,
Is there any way this can be done?????

Re: Assigning IP Address to serial interface
Hi,
I think you are looking at xyplex or shiva dialup servers for dial-up connectivity whereby a dial-up IP address from a pool is assigned to the dialup connection.
I am not aware that it can be performed on a HP system.
Hope this helps. Regards.

Re: Assigning IP Address to serial interface
Sounds to me like you need to use SLIP, or Serial Line Internet Protocol and PPP or Point To Point protocol.
I suggest you take a look at the manual for thia at:
http://docs.hp.com/hpux/onlinedocs/B2355-90137/B2355-90137.html
Be aware that you will be unable to use the UPS serial port on a D-class for this purpose.
