association between hardware path and driver name

Hi,

How do go about swapping the hardware path with the driver name accordingly in K450, OS 11.00?

Example:
Dispay from ioscan:
10/4/8.2.0 /dev/rmt/2m
10/12/5.0.0 /dev/rmt/3m

change to:
10/4/8.2.0 /dev/rmt/3m
10/12/5.0.0 /dev/rmt/2m

Thanks in advance,
YC

You can remove your Device files with the rmsf commands and re-create them yourself with mksf.

Why do you want to that?

Re: association between hardware path and driver name

Hi,

It's easy, as said before, to remove them with 'rmsf' and to recreate them with 'mksf'.

I'd really like to know why you wanna do that, am I missing the point somewhere ? ;-)

Best regards,

Dan

Re: association between hardware path and driver name

Hi,

Reason:
The 2 hosts are running in cluster (MCSG) with 3 DDS tape drives each:
First host (simplified ioscan -fnCtape):
Class I H/W Path Driver Description
tape 1 0/0/1/0.0.0 /dev/rmt/1m /dev/rmt/c0t0d0BESTn
tape 0 0/0/1/0.3.0
/dev/rmt/0m /dev/rmt/c0t3d0BESTn
tape 2 0/0/1/0.4.0 /dev/rmt/2m /dev/rmt/c0t4d0BESTn

Second host:
Class I H/W Path Driver Description
tape 1 0/0/1/0.1.0 /dev/rmt/1m /dev/rmt/c0t1d0BESTn
tape 2 0/0/1/0.2.0
/dev/rmt/2m /dev/rmt/c0t2d0BESTn
tape 0 0/0/1/0.3.0 /dev/rmt/0m /dev/rmt/c0t3d0BESTn

I would like to know how to make the 1 st host same as 2 nd host.

How tedious it is to achieved it ? Some said is easy but Patrick Wessel's steps referred by Rainer is complicated.

The modifications suggested by Patrick are not to complicated if you do straight forward as described in the cookbook. but btw. why don?t you use shared tapes SW and share these 3 tapes to your hosts so you will have left three
