Async write errors on busy Lvol/Filesystem
Ladies and germs,
I have a question about Async write errors. On one Lvol/FS, I have had 712 write errors on one particular disk since my last reboot on January 17, 2004.
The disk appears to be fine, There are 4 disks in the Lvol but it is not mirrored nor striped, although the LUNS are on EMC and are h/w mirrored.
My question is this.
Does the number of Async write errors have any extra wear on the disk b/c of the sheer volume of writes or is that merely a function of the software portion, I mean that it is more a function of the actual data crossing the fiber/switch/EMCframe to the disk ?
Should I consider this a hot disk? ie. that it is being hit much more often than the other 3 disks on the LVOL?
I think I will mention it to my Performance management group or perhaps my EMC folks as well, just to get their opinion as well.
Thanks.

Unix, the other white meat.

Re: Async write errors on busy Lvol/Filesystem
Is the I/O really high on that disk?
The write error issue could be due to stress.
Especially if the disk is solid.
You might want to collect form performance data, looking for I/O issues.
Also, you might want to do some measurement on the array.
