ATTN! Status in Guest VM - HPVM 2.0

Hi everybody.

I am working with an Integrity box with HPVM 2.0 version and I have 2 guests VMs on it. The OS version is HP-UX 11.23.
This is my problem.
Each week, somehow, one of the VMs gets into the ATTN! state. So I cannot launch a TC nor turn off the VM. I'd also tried to kill de hpvm process in order to avoid rebooting the host but it didn't work. Because of this in almost every incident I am forced to reboot the host machine in order to put them to work.
Has anyone seen something like this before?
I am really confused with the problem.

Thanks for you help.

Re: ATTN! Status in Guest VM - HPVM 2.0

I would bet that any problems like this are already fixed in newer versions.

IVM is currently at 4.0...

I would stongly suggest to save time by getting current. Or at least see if there is a patch fixing this known issue in 2.0..

Re: ATTN! Status in Guest VM - HPVM 2.0

Bonjour Pablo,

Could you post your memory configuration for both host (machinfo/swapinfo -atm) and guests (hpvmstatus) ? But as said Tim the better way to solve your problem is probably to move to HPVM 4.0 : HPVM 2.0 is rather old and was not very stable. And end of support of HPVM 2.0 is planned for december 2008.

I you do so, you will have to reinstall the host with HP-UX 11iv3. And, though guest HP-UX OS supported is HP-UX 11i v2 May 2005 or later, I do suggest that you upgrade your guest (update-ux, not simply patch) with the latest version of 11iv2.

If you can't do that, you can try to patch to latest quality bundle http://www.itrc.hp.com/service/patch/releasePage.do?BC=main|releaseIndexPage|&releaseId=0806-11.23 both on VM host and VM guest. Also download patches from patch set "HPVMhost" and "HPVMguest" for 11.23 from http://www.itrc.hp.com/service/patch/searchHPUXPatchSet.do?BC=main

But remember that end of HPVM 2.0 is coming soon

Re: ATTN! Status in Guest VM - HPVM 2.0

Hi again.
Fine advice guys.
I upgraded the HPVM server to 3.5 version and the ATTN! problem dissapeared.
Thankyou both for your help.
