audswitch: Not owner

Hello all!
Does anybody know the following problem: I cannot logon onto the HPUX v10.20 HP9000 not from console, not remotely. I tried root ID and three other IDs. Same result. The responce of system is "audswitch: Not owner"

In single user mode I have loops with triple strings:

INIT: SINGLE USER MODE
setgroups: Not owner
su: unable to initialaze group access list

Please HELP me!
How I can to stop loop for use command line? CTRL+break and other not effectively.
What I must to do for login onto system?
Does anybody occured this situation?

This problem normally occurs if the
permissions of important binary executables
like login & password in /sbin directory
or /usr/bin directory have been changed
or messed up.

<INIT: SINGLE USER MODE
setgroups: Not owner
su: unable to initialaze group access list>>

Seems that all or most of the file permissions and ownerships in your /sbin directory have gotten messed up. Did anybody
run a chown or chmod command inadvertently
on that directory??

Ok, what you can do is boot into single
user mode. From ISL prompt
ISL> hpux -is

it should get you into single user. If you
want to break the errors , press "cntrl \"
repeatedly until it breaks.
Once in single user mode; go to /
#cd /bin
#ls -l

The permissions/ownership of login should be:
-rwsr-xr-x 1 root bin /bin/login

If it is not so, then you would need to change
it. Check the same thing for other files
in the /bin directory.
To change the permissions do
chmod 4755 /bin/login

If you have another similar system compare
the permissions of other files in the /bin
directory. It would be easier that way.

Also look at /usr filesystem
mount /usr
cd /usr/bin
ls -l -> and check file ownership and permissions.

The problem basically is the permissions.
Once you sort it out, it should be ok.

p.s: you can set up email alerts to alert
you in case of a response to your question.

Re: audswitch: Not owner

Hi Raj!
Thank You very much for assistance!
But my main problem is unable to input any command. If I try to boot: hpux -is I have scrolling with loop of triple strings that I wrote above. This scrolling do not stopped any combination of key.
I can't to check permission of files!! CTRL+\ don't stop it too. I can stop the scrolling, but I can't stop loop.

Re: audswitch: Not owner

Hi,

If you are unable to break out from the boot loop, what you can do is to boot from the support CD. Follow this document- booting from support CD--
OZBEKBRC00000581

and then go into recovery mode. From this mode, check the permissions, init scripts, just as i mentioned in my earlier response.

Re: audswitch: Not owner

Hi Raj!
Many thanks for the help and advice they very much were useful!
However it was much more difficultly: Except for permission almost on all basic files was changed the "owner". It was necessary to put system on a new clear disk. I started from him and to correct on spoiled all in manual:-0 It was VERY long time work :-(
If you were near to me, I think all would pass probably much faster ;-)
Once again many thanks for qiuck help!
