Auto-recover from remote printer failues

I've used a couple other Unixes - Tru-64 and DG-UX. Both of those platforms would 'autorecover' from a failed printer by trying to re-enable the queue every 15 minutes if it went into an 'error' status.

I find with 11iv3, that when a remote printer queue goes into an error condition, that it gets disabled - but permanently.

Is there no 'Autorecover' functionality in HP-UX 11iv3?

Correct. The lp subsystem has had very few enhancements over the last 20 years. You can create a simple script to find disabled printers and enable them. Then run the script from cron every 15 minutes.
