automaticly changing tapes
We have an HP Surestore DAT 40x6 on our HP-UX 11.0 server. How is it possible to change the tapes automaticly during the backup with ignite or fbackup?

Re: automaticly changing tapes
It's not impossible but extremely difficult. You would need to write some pretty good scripts to enable you to do this.
With ignite I'm not sure it possible at all. With fbackup, when the program asks for a second tape then you could actually load a second and subsequent tape using the 'mc' command. You would also need to have a proper robot control device.
My advice is to invest in some real backup software (like omniback veritas etc.) if you need to create backups on more than one tape.

Re: automaticly changing tapes
Hi
its possible with fbackup. You can specify multible devices with the -f option like.
fbackup -f /dev/rmt/0m -f /dev/rmt/1m -f ..
So the tape in first drive is finished backup goes to second drive. But in this case the tape should be loaded in all drives mentioned or else it will ask for mount request.
Cheers
