automounter & hyperfabric/fddi

Has anyone successfully set up auto map files with dual entries, ie: one for hyperfabric interfaces and the other for fddi? The objective is for client systems using hyperfabric to automount filesystems using hyperfabric while systems w/out hyperfabric mount the same filesytem with an alternate interface (fddi...)

I've tried putting both entries in the map file, but it seems to only use the first entry it finds - if the first entry is for a hyperfabric interface, a system that is not attached to the hyperfabric will hang when trying to mount.

Any info is appreciated

Re: automounter & hyperfabric/fddi

Hi Maggie,

In the manual "Installing and Administering NFS Services HP 9000 Networking
Edition 3
HP Part Number: B1031-90000
E0195"

exist the folowing note :

HP does not support NFS or NIS over Wide Area Networks (WANs). WANs include network links using X.25, microwave links, public common
carriers, or high speed lines (such as 56kb )

I hope this helps.

Re: automounter & hyperfabric/fddi

Abel - thanks for your quick reply. Unfortunately I was not specific enough in my problem description. I'm not trying this over a WAN. The systems are HPUX, a mix of 10.2 and 11.0. NFS is running over hyperfabric,FDDI and Ethernet which are all supported by HP. The problem lies within automounter - it appears to not be able to handle more than one type of server interface in the map file when in fact our environment has servers that connect to the network in more than one fashion.. I need for it to be able to negotiate the fastest path, or at least ignore a path that is not existent on the server (if the server connected via FDDI, it shouldn't try to mount the f/s using hyperfabric)

Maggie,

In your network, do you have any router or
bridge among these servers that posses NFS
configurated ???
