Automounter and autoFS
What are the advantages over autoFS over automounters. Can autoFS be implemented in the place where automounters are present. What version of NFS do we require to use the autoFS. What are the highs and lows of it?
Can some one enlighten me on that
Thanks

Re: Automounter and autoFS
Hi,
there's a good document for autoFS on the site www.docs.hp.com
Go there to:
Networking & Communications
NFS Services
Installing & Administering NFS Services
with 10.20 ACE and HWE
Configuring and Administering NFS
Configuring and Administering AutoFS
Complet URL: http://docs.hp.com/dynaweb/hpux10/netwen0a/0180/@Generic__BookTextView/3708?DwebQuery=autofs#1

Re: Automounter and autoFS
I responded to your other thread concerning the differences in these products. However, this thread appears to want an "opinion" as to why you would use one over the other. I'll give some pro's and con's:
AUTOFS
Pros: Direct mounting without symbolic links is less confusing. Direct mounting can eliminates some of the automounter bugs with not being able to see subdirectories until they are entered
Cons: A fairly new implementation and can be on the "bleeding" edge. Expect many new bugs and patches to resolve. Overall technichal expertise on this product is far less than the basic automounter. It may be more difficult to find experienced administrators or support personnel on this product.
Automounter
Pros: Tried and true. Much experience and expertise is available both in terms of administators and support personnel.
Cons: Symbolic linking of mount points is inconvenient and sometimes confusing. Limited options when compared to AutoFS.
