Automounting Problem
Recently built a new system. A J210 running 10.20. There is an error in the rc.log stating,
starting up the Automount daemon /usr/sbin/automount -f /etc/auto_master
FAILURE CODE: 1
mounting remote NFS file systems ...
"/sbin/rc2.d/S430nfs.client start" FAILED
As a result, I cannot see the homedirs or other files mounted from remote machines. I have checked and double checked the config files such as namesvrs, netconf, and nfsconf. I can, however, get to these remote machines from the /net directory.
I've had this problem on another system, but it seemed to "fix itself" upon a reboot one day.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Re: Automounting Problem
Mike,
look at /etc/rc.config.d/nfsconf. Following variables must be set, e.g.:
NFS_CLIENT=1
NUM_NFSD=6
NUM_NFSIOD=4
AUTOMOUNT=1
AUTO_MASTER="/etc/auto_master"
AUTO_OPTIONS="-f $AUTO_MASTER"
START_MOUNTD=1
MOUNTD_VER=3
AUTOFS=0
MOUNT_VER=3
Look at /sbin/init.d/nfs.client and /sbin/rc2.d/S430nfs.client, the latter one should be a link to the first one. Compare nfs.client with file versions on other machines that are running well. Your listed output of rc.log regarding nfs.client seems to be truncated. I would expect some more error messages after having a fast look on my /sbin/init.d/nfs.client.
If you do direct mounting: Don't do that, now. First, try indirect mounts.
If you do direct mounting: Be sure that /var/adm/inetd.sec on the other machines allow remote mounts from your new machine. Execute 'inetd -c' after changing /var/adm/inetd.sec on each host.
Be sure your new machine is available via DNS. If you don't use DNS check /etc/hosts on the other machines to have a valid entry of your new machine.
Be sure your /etc/resolv.conf has valid entries.

Re: Automounting Problem
Hi Mike,
Couple of points to look
1. what is in your /etc/auto_master file?
2. Are you using nis auto.direct or do you have local auto.direct? if you are using this file.
It is trying to start automounter but not getting map.
I think your problem is in auto_master file.
Sachin
