B2600 workstation & HP-UX 11.0 32bit

In the document supplied from HP, it is said that the B2600 workstation only support HP-UX 11.0 64Bit. Can I downgrade to 32 bit for this system? Thanks for advance

Hummm, the HP website says that the B2600 is supported on 10.20 (which is 32bit only) so it may be installed with 11.0 and choose either 32bit or 64bit opsystem. NOTE: you'll need the Core HP-UX installation CDs Jan 2000 or later. Older CDs do not have some of the components needed to support the B2600. Hi,
i have seen B2600 working with 10.20 installed this means that B2600 works with 32 bit OS also.
I think there shouldnt be a problem going for 11.00 32bit,but please make sure that you are using latest OS & Support Plus media.

Re: B2600 workstation & HP-UX 11.0 32bit

Anything running a PA-8500 or later CPU will only be supported on the 64-bit flavor when running HP-UX 11.X. Even if that same system runs and is supported on the 10.20 OS.

The only systems for which one is given a choice of either 32 or 64-bit 11.x are those systems running with PA-8[02]00 CPUs.

The B2600 uses (iirc) a PA-8600 CPU.

A 64-bit kernel can run both 32-bit and 64-bit applications. Unless you have something very kernel intrusive (such as a driver) there really should be no problems running the 64-bit kernel.

32 bit will work just fine.

Yest, the reason to change from 64 bit to 32 bit is we are developing a driver for a PCI digital I/O card. The system crash in HPMC: "A Data I/O Fetch Timeout occurred while CPU 0 was
requesting information from a device at the path 10/1/1/0 (PCI slot 1)". After check hardware supply, it is said the hardware only work in 32 bit os.

Re: B2600 workstation & HP-UX 11.0 32bit

i'm sure someone will point-out a corner case, but why on earth would the card hardware give a rodents backside about the bitness of the OS...

now, I could see where the card might only support 32-bit addressing on the PCI bus, but the cobination of I/O adaptors and I/O services code (you are using the mapping calls right?) should hide all of the 64-bitness in the OS from the card.

i could also see where a driver may have only been "certified" under a 32-bit compile and lurking bugs in 64-bit mode could cause problems.
