Solutionsee 'man pam' and 'man pam_authenticate'
It's from a wrong password of a user.

Do you have a support?
Then you can view tese documents:

If it's during boot, then it's strange ...
Is it a new installation?
Which os?

Re: B2600 workstation reboot
give us 'uname -a' please.
Do you have NFS configured?
Where is 'sc_system.log' from?
What's about rc.log, syslog, Xerror?
(That's the logs I know)
Was anything change recently?
At which point is the error?
Any login to another ws?

Re: B2600 workstation reboot
Please can you check the following
1) if your server is booting continues, Did you checked your reboot option is set to true or false .
2) Does the crashdump is configured to generate the memory dump either if
a) if its a Hardware issue ( HPMC , LPMC ), Then it will be stored under /var/adm/tombstones/tsxx file
b) If its a software / OS issue,
/var/adm/crash/crashxx
If you find any crashdump, Then consult HP for further Analysis
Thanks

Re: B2600 workstation reboot
ok, the docs only say that 'pamauthenticate status=9' means /* Authentication failure */ and how to turn messages off.
Your syslog starts at July 3rd, 2007, so your ws is running almost 2 years, right?
You have the message '"DTSESSION: pamauthenticate status=9" ' since 2007 so it's not your problem.
So we don't talk about reboots, but maybe continuely restarting the CDE?
But your Xerrors are also from 2007, nothing new ... no restart messages.
Can you descripe your problem once again?

Re: B2600 workstation reboot
you got the latest informations:
Jun 24 11:23:52 hbtvsvr ftpd[27783]: FTP LOGIN FROM
So the ws is currently running ...
system reboot - that means the ws is shutting down (stopping) and booting from disk again.
The os would move the old syslog to OLDsyslog and starts a new log.
CDE restart - ok correctly I've to say Xserver restart - that means that no login window appears at the monitor, no user can login at the CDE window.
Most times I've seen it, a cross appears at the monitor, then the ws beeps, then the last boot informations appear again, then the cross again, and so on.
Are you trying to login at the ws directly or with Xwindows, or exceed, or telnet or rlogin ...

Re: B2600 workstation reboot
From your syslog your ws is running since almost 2 years and it's still running without reboot.
If you have a failing network management software you maybe have a network problem.
Or do we talk about another ws?
Please describe what you watch.
