Backup and Recovery for a large db
We will be deploying Oracle. App. Rel.11i on a V-class server. I am wondering if anybody recommends about "backup and recovery". The db size will be 150G.
My questions would be:
1) Available Hardware (Tape Devices: speed, size of tapes etc..)
2) How long does it take to perform a backup for 150G?
3) In case of failure how long it may take to recover for this size.
4) your experience any other relevant info.
Thanks in advance to whom will share their knowledge.
Regards

Re: Backup and Recovery for a large db
Performance can be a factor as such issues as network traffic, hardware setup and use, backup mode of the Oracle, logging available, hot vs cold backups, etc...
Lots of research for possibilities.

Re: Backup and Recovery for a large db
I know it requires all those.
I wanted to hear your experience. Template would be
We use this tape drive, this software, We backup a 100G db and this takes this much time. DB will be on the same machine as well as the tape device. So network is not a concern.

Re: Backup and Recovery for a large db
We have Oracle Apps here as well. We use a tape library with 6 DLT 7000 drives to backup approx. 300 GB every night. Software is OmniBack II. With four drives it takes
2 hrs 30 minutes to backup these data.
If we would use all 6 drives it would even be faster. We have connected the DLT drives with SCSI, but you can go for a FC solution as well.
Other solution is double mirroring,, then you break off one mirror and make a backup.
Hope this gives you an idea.

Re: Backup and Recovery for a large db
Had to do a installation + configuration for a Customer.
Cu had a 1Gb Network(Dedicated for backup),
Surestore 6/60 (DLT8000 tapes), FC60 Autoraid.
Backup time: 45 Gb in one hour
Restore time 45 Gb in one hour and 30 minutes.
DLT8000 :42 to 43 Gb per hour.
When making backups try to eliminate many bottlenecks, like disk or network.
