Re: Backup failed..

Hi

check a different tape. If it doesn't work, it looks like your drive is faulty. Might need a drive replacement.

Try
# mt -t /dev/rmt/0m staus and the

# mt -t /dev/rmt/0m offl commands with the tape inside and see how it works.

Good Luck

Re: Backup failed..

fbackup/frecover have MANY features to ensure accrate storage and recovery, especially when there are tapwe errors. The fact that short backups and restores work OK definitely indicate a tape drive problem. It is not a hard failure, but one where the drive errors are not getting detected. tar has nothing to recover from tape errors and only minimum data integrity tests. You can download TapeTools and use that to test your drive, but with online diagnostics and EMS loaded, your syslog should be full of tape error messages. Without EMS/diags, your server is not going to be dependable. Get TapeTools from http://h18006.www1.hp.com/products/storageworks/ltt/

When i try to install the Hp_tape_tool, it's giving the following error. Can anyone help me out to successfully install the tapedrive_tool.

Re: Backup failed..

It looks like you recently changed the hostname and/or IP address or LAN card on this system. Stop and restart swagentd:

/sbin/init.d/swagentd stop
/sbin/init.d/swagentd start

and that should fix the problem. This is not unique to TapeTools...installing any HP software using swinstall (applications, patches, etc) would give you the same error.
