backup keeps failing
Hi all,
Since recently I'm having problem with my tape backups. The backup keeps failing. The backup never had any problem until now. ( HP9000 , B.11.11 ) The tape drive is a QUANTUM DLT8000 tape drive.
I have the following message in my syslog of 06,13 and 14 november.
syslog.log.20071106:Nov 6 03:03:55 mowdb265 vmunix: SCSI: Unexpected Disconnect -- lbolt: -1750319147, dev: cd046000, io_id: 4b2a2bb
syslog.log.20071113:Nov 13 02:33:00 mowdb265 vmunix: SCSI: Request Timeout; Abort -- lbolt: -1690023967, dev: cd046000, io_id: 4b9233a
syslog.log.20071114:Nov 14 02:38:02 mowdb265 vmunix: SCSI: Request Timeout; Abort -- lbolt: -1681353719, dev: cd046000, io_id: 4b9bb0a
A dmesg also shows some error message ( see attached file for more detail info )
: Target detected parity error -- lbolt: -1854368826, dev: cd046000
SCSI: Unexpected Disconnect -- lbolt: -1854368826, dev: cd046000, io_id: 4a6707f
SCSI TAPE: dev = 0xcd046000 I/O error during close
SCSI: Target detected parity error -- lbolt: -1849703813, dev: cd046000
SCSI: Unhandled interrupt -- lbolt: -1849703813, dev: cd046000
I think that my tape drive is broken but I'm not sure?
Can someone suggest some command so that I can be certain that the tape drive is broken?
Kind Regards,

Re: backup keeps failing
Hi
Before tape replacement
Check SCSI cabling, terminators, be sure about each connector has successfully plugged, test SCSI cable and terminator with another device
Check electrical values of your environment
If above items are ok you can check it with LTT then you can consider tape replacement
Best Regards
Murat
