Backup more than one SQL Server DB to the same tape

Hello, I have an HP Sure Store Autoloader 1/9 with LTO Drives and it is configured to work with OmniBack 3.5 on a Windows NT Server.

I am trying to backup several SQL Servers databases to the same tape but I am unable to make it, the backup does not append the new DB to the tape and replaces the information.

Can anyone give me some advice on this.
Regards,
Arturo.

Re: Backup more than one SQL Server DB to the same tape

You probably need to check your Media Usage Policy in the Media Pool and the Protection specified in the Backup Specification.

If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: Backup more than one SQL Server DB to the same tape

I don?t have any protection on the backup specification.
On the Media policies y have appendable for usage and Loose on application, I have tryed to change these parameters but the same happens when I try to backup SQL databases.
Just for you to know, if I try to backup several file servers in one tape, this I can do it, but it doesn?t happend that way with SQL servers....
If I go to the properties of the Device, there is one option named concurrency, this option is disabled when I try to backup a DB Server and it is enabled when I try to backup a file server.

Re: Backup more than one SQL Server DB to the same tape

Hi
You can create single datalist with multiple servers to backup. And as long as you have configured single drive for this backup, all data will go on same tape, provided size of all fits on single tape.
In you datalist the protection statement should show as none to overwrite that tape.

If you want same tape to be used over and over again, I would pre-allocate one tape to the datalist.

Hope this helps.
Thanks.

Re: Backup more than one SQL Server DB to the same tape

I?m able to create single datalist with multiple servers to backup only when I create a filesystem backup, when I create a MSSQL backup there is only one option to choose for a client, is there an option to choose several clients on MSSQL backup specification????

Re: Backup more than one SQL Server DB to the same tape

Hi
I haven't had a chanse to integrate SQL server with Omniback, but as per manual "Omniback II can backup more than one Microsoft SQL Server 7 database at a time. It can even backup a single database using multiple streams"

You can find online documents for SQL server integration at following link

Thanks.

Re: Backup more than one SQL Server DB to the same tape

I read the document you tolk me and it seems that it is another limitant from OmniBack, because I can do this kind of backup directly rom SQL.
Anyway, I hope HP do something about it soon.
Thanks to you all.
