bad drive

I'm thinking my vg00 drive is heading south. I issued a 'dd if=/dev/rdsk/c1t6d0 of=/dev/null bs=512k' and it's been running for over a day now. I can't get ignite to work, it gives me a list_expander error (/etc/lvmtab table looks good), and I can't compile a new kernel. What are my options besides rebuilding the machine? Unfortunately, I don't have an ignite image.

I assume the drive isn't mirrored?

Re: bad drive

See the sections regarding "confirming disk failure" in this:

http://www.docs.hp.com/en/5991-1236/When_Good_Disks_Go_Bad.pdf

do you have a backup of *any* kind available?

Without mirroring or a valid ignite backup you face rebuilding from media.

Re: bad drive

I have tape backups but not sure if they can be of any help.

Re: bad drive

Thanks for the help. I think I may need to start planning on a rebuild.
