Bad Lif Magic error
I am trying to to boot off a make_recovery tape. I can see the tape drive but, I get a "bad lif magic" error when I try to boot off of it. Any suggestions?

Re: Bad Lif Magic error
Could be lots:
1. What ver. of Ignite are you using?
see http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,1150,0xb188c3d7fb78d4118fef0090279cd0f9,00.html
2. Could be a bad tape... Did you get any error when recorded?
3. Is the tape made in the same box that you try to recover it? What command did you use to record the tape (what options?) and to recover it?
4. Do you have another ignite tape made? Try from that one... Any luck?

Re: Bad Lif Magic error
Chet,
Check to see if the tape contains the LIF area with the copy_boot_tape command
# copy_boot_tape -u /dev/rmt/0mn -b -d /tmp/ignitetest
There is a document in the ITRC Knowledge Base: "boot from make_recovery tape gives "IPL error: bad LIF magic", id AUSRCKBRC00003585 which may help you further.
