Banner Printing
We have HP UX 11.0 system and line printer is connected with jet direct card.
I am using dumb model script and there is no option where I can enable banner option. Then I tried following
1. Shutdown the scheduler.
2. Copy the dumb model script
(/var/spool/lp/model/dumb) to the
interface directory
(var/spool/lp/interface/model.orig)
and rename as printer name (mislp1)
3. Edit the printer script file
/etc/lp/interface/model.org/mislp1 as
shown below -
Made the changes as mentioned as
follows in the script in B1 No trusted
system
banner="yes";;
# echo "\014\c" (Comment this line)
4. Start the scheduler.
Now are are getting one additional paper in the beginning of print but no banner
I am attaching dump script in word format
Thanks

Re: Banner Printing
Run up jetadmin (mines in /opt/hpnp//bin/jetadmin) select option 1 to change configuration, then option 5 to modify existing spooler queues.
Enter the printer name and then select option 4 for additional printer changes. Option 1 is then the banner option.

Re: Banner Printing
The base scripts for Jetadmin are in /opt/hpnp/sh
Add /opt/hpnp/man to MANPATH and you will find a man page per script.
What printer are you trying to use.
See
net_generic(1) net_generic(1)
NAME
net_generic (for net_genericprinter and net_genericplotter)
SYNOPSIS
lp [ -o option [ -o option ] ...]
DESCRIPTION
This man page lists all -o options provided by the net_generic scripts
used with generic printers and plotters, including laserjet, color
laserjet, deskjet, designjet, inkjet, and paintjet models. The scripts
are provided to allow configuration of printers and plotters that are
not supported by JetAdmin. These scripts provide basic features
supported by most of the printers and plotters mentioned above. The
net_generic scripts consist of two distinct model scripts. The user
must select either the printer or plotter model script. Not all
options available in the net_generic scripts are available on all
supported printers and plotters.
This may be better.
Just install with jetadmin.

Re: Banner Printing
As to you current solution: I think you are probably looking at the wrong copy of the file because for the dumb script, a banner is the default, i.e. it should always have printed a banner.
Having said that, I see that (before/*outside* the case statement), there is a
banner="yes";
statement.
While I am not sure it is a problem, that statement should not have a trailing semi-colon, i.e. it should be
banner="yes"
";" is a command seperator and often does not hurt at the end, but you never know.

Re: Banner Printing
If you are using jetadmin you can do it through the jetadmin menu too:
login as root
jetadmin
option 1 ----> Configuration Super Usrr Only
Option 5 ----> Modify Existing Sppoler Queue
option 4 ----> Turn banner on and off

Re: Banner Printing
During the printer queue creation if you select dumb printer it will not give you the option for banner printing. You have to select the net_generic print driver. Then you will get the option for banner.
So remove the existing queue and create the new queue with the model net_generic.

Re: Banner Printing
ALso you can try to make BANNER=yes in /usr/spool/lp/interface/printer name or in /etc/lp/interface/model.orig/printer name.

Re: Banner Printing
I have already tried out and still it is not working. I do appreciate if you advise the cause. Why am I not able to get banner option in HP 11.0 with Jet Admin S/W E10.18 while it works fine with HP UX 10.20.
Do I need to load some patch etc. Presently, we have installed June'2001 patch.
Thanks for all for giving suggestion
Rgds
