Bastille and X windows

We're newbies and we want to take Bastille for a spin on an HPUX 11i system. From what I've seen, X windows is needed for Bastille. Our box doesn't have a graphics card and we don't have another graphics capable Unix workstation from which to connect. How should we proceed? Is there X emulation we can run from a PC workstation? Freeware? What do you recommend?

Re: Bastille and X windows

Running a Reflexion X or Exceed on your windows machine is OK. You can export DISPLAY to it. These are not freeware. Only free project I know running an X server will be cygwin, but it's a bit less easy to set up than the two others (as long as it's not its primary goal).

Fred

Re: Bastille and X windows

Hi donald,

Reflection X from WRQ has a 60 days free evaluation copy.

Hope this helps.

Re: Bastille and X windows

If you have never used X server on HP-UX you need to set it up.

as root

vi /etc/rc.config.d/xfs

Make sure the first variable is set to 1

/sbin/init.d/xfs start

Now you can connect with your freeware.
DISPLAY variabe must be set like this.
DISPLAY=ipaddress_or_hostname_of_workstation:0.0
export DISPLAY

example
DISPLAY=192.168.0.139
export DISPLAY

xfs is not set to 1 as an OS default on 11 v1
