BBR on dump??

BBR on dump??

Hi gurus,

I would like to pose a question. In many threads on ITRC i have seen that the BBRA location has been removed and bad sectors are taken care by the firmware itself. However, there are still many places we use the -r n option with lvchange. Dump areas should never have BBR enabled. If I have to configure dump area on vg00 before doing a crashconf the following command has to be executed :- lvchange -C y -r n /dev/vg00/dump. If bad block relocation is disabled by default, what is the -r n option for?? I am aware software bad block relocation is disabled but without the -r n option, it still gives me unsupported disk layout. The whole time I have been thinking -r n is for disabling bad block relocation. What is it for? And I always assign points.

Re: BBR on dump??

From man pages.

From HP-UX 11iv2 release onwards does not provide the LVM bad block relocation feature, however for compatibility reasons the value is maintained as a logical volume attribute.

Default value of this flag is y.

I know, it is not satisfying your query; but at least you get some info.

Re: BBR on dump??

Hi,

I didn't want to create a new thread on this. Sorry, I felt like reviving this thread. I am seriously curious to know this answer as why it says unsupported disk layout on a v3 operating system without a -r n option when BBRA is disabled. Does -r n do somethig else? A technically right answer would be highly appreciated!.
