bdf issues and PHKL_31500
I got called in over Christmas to investigate a problem that one of our boxes was exhibiting. We were getting "bdf(1M) locks /etc/mnttab and holds the lock when the
filesystem is not responding" errors on that box which corresponds to bug SR:8606365017. The issue I have is that PHKL_31500 - that line-in-the-sand patch (and which has been discussed within these forums - see: http://forums12.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=1173622&admit=109447627+1199276860764+28353475 for example) - which should fix this issue is already installed as is PHCO_32608...
hwhpx009!root(108)# swlist -v | grep 31500

Can anyone shed any light on this?

Re: bdf issues and PHKL_31500
Hi,
Is the NFS server stoped. Even after applying PHKL_31500, there could be stale NFS due to which you may encounter the above problem.
/sbin/init.d/nfs.client stop
/sbin/init.d/nfs.server stop
/sbin/init.d/nfs.core stop
/sbin/init.d/nfs.core start
/sbin/init.d/nfs.server start
/sbin/init.d/nfs.client start
Thanks,
Srikanth

Re: bdf issues and PHKL_31500
Shalom,
I agree an NFS restart should probably resolve this.
However PHKL_31500 is not the end all of patches. Its the starting point and the issue could be caused by other defects dealt with by other patches. It could have been re-introduced by a subsequent patch.
Whatever you do, never install PHKL_31500 a second time. LITS patches destroy systems if re-installed.
