You should also take a look at 'sar'. sar can provide you with quite a bit of information on disk performance, cpu performance, etc.
I think you will find these 2 things a good place to start.

You can also d/l glance for many os'es on a free trial.. in the time before registration you should get enough info gathered to make your comparrison.

They have lots of links to industry standard benchmarks.
Since you're looking at EMC... have you looked at an XP? The XP is about twice as fast as an EMC, and is less expensive, too.

I did the same project that you are doing know about a year and a half ago.
We didn't really get a big performance boost moving from EMC SCSI to EMC Fibre but what we got was the expandability with the switch/conectrix. However, some of the new EMC frames have more internal buses then in the past. You may get added performance based on this not necassary SCSI vs Fibre.
