Re: best practice to install samba
1) Samba is the easiest way. Thats because a Samba client is built into Windows and not an NFS client the other way to pull this off.
To install, do this:
http://software.hp.com/portal/swdepot/displayProductInfo.do?productNumber=B8725AA
Thats the server piece which can be installed without a boot.
Then edit the smb.conf file and set up your shares. Its probably in /etc/opt/samba/smb.conf
Then
smbpasswd -a
/sbin/init.d/samba stop
/sbin/init.d/samba start
You should then be able to connect.

Re: best practice to install samba
Hi Halim,
If you're new to the HP CIFS Server product, which is HP's version of Samba, you'll want to familiarize yourself with the SWAT tool.
SWAT is the web-based administration tool that ships with Samba and CIFS, and it is a menu driven means of modifying the /etc/opt/samba/smb.conf file. It has a full online help facility that explains each option and how they interact with other options, and you can make changes via SWAT that take effect immediately. SWAT allows you to configure shares, printers, etc.
To start SWAT, after you've installed HP CIFS Server, simply point a web browser at your server system and specify port 901. For example:
http://yourserver:901
Hope this helps,
Dave
