/opt/ignite/bin/make_tape_recovery -x inc_entire=vg00 -Iv -a /dev/rmt/0mn
> /opt/sysadminScripts/osbackup.log.`date +%d%m%Y` 2>&1
mt -f /dev/rmt/0mn rewind;

Re: Best practices Ignite
Best practice is to use cron to run your Ignite job, make_tape_recovery or make_net_recovery
If using tape, make sure a tape is in the drive before the appointed hour.
It is also good to have a DR test where you actually restore a system from Ignite. Its not a good solution if you are not sure it will work.

Re: Best practices Ignite
Yes , You are right,
make_net_recovery -> for Ignite Server
make_tape_recovery --> for Ignite backup via tape

Re: Best practices Ignite
if you have software contract linked with your itrc account , search for software recovery handbook (ignite ux ) , this will give all info needed to setup and manage ignite ux

Re: Best practices Ignite
from personal experience schedule your ignite backup in crontab, I have that way, ignite backup jobs run during bussiness off hours.
for example, I have this in a script.
/opt/ignite/bin/make_net_recovery -s mx45rt -A -n 3 -P s -x inc_entire=vg00 -x exclude=/SAParchives -x exclude=/usrtemporal
hope this helps.

Re: Best practices Ignite
I run them once a month.
But according to best practices you should also run them before you modify kernel and install a patch.
Also I you setup a ignite server/client environment, ignite images take up as lot of space for example, I have a mixed environment of hpux 11.11 and 11.23 servers.
images for 11.11 server are about 4 to 5 GB
images for 11.23 are from 8 to 12 GB.
so take this into account
as recommended im only backing up vg00 (only O.S. related info), if you have anithing not related to O.S. in vg00 exclude like the example I given you above.
If you need anything else, let me know.
have a great day
