Best way to backup ClearCase.
What is the general opinion as to the best method of
backing up ClearCase - from the Unix level ie backup
the ClearCase data files or from within ClearCase itself ? Neither is
satisfactory. The first is fine
for catastrophic data loss - the second allows the recovery of single files
within Clearcase but cannot be used for disk failures etc.
Any ideas welcome.

Re: Best way to backup ClearCase.
First off, I have no idea what ClearCase is so this reply could be a total
waste of time. I asume it's just another application.
I would go for the combination of both.
Install Ignite and create a rescue tape from which you can restore base
functionality (default vg00) pretty fast. If Omniback isn't installed on vg00
then you will need to add it to the rescue tape. In that case you will need to
do a preview and add the directory of omniback manualy to the file created.
After that you can use whatever backup program (as long as it's on the resque
tape) to backup individual files.
Just remember to update the resque tape after changes (or periodicaly).
