BIND 9.2 for HP-UX 11.00

I want to upgrade the version of BIND on an 11.00 server (currently at 4.9.7) and have been struggling to find what I want on the patch database. Anyone know the patch I need to load to upgrade to BIND 9.2?

Shalom Mark,

You will probably have to reformat your zone records to make your DNS databases work after the upgrade.

Migrating from previous versions of BIND.

This is more important than the software install and should be read prior to the installation.

Re: BIND 9.2 for HP-UX 11.00

Thanks for two excellent answers.

Geoff - I'd already seen that page and somehow missed the "receive free" button at the bottom!

Steven - this is only a slave server and it's actually working better since I installed 9.2 (but it's early days yet!). Horrible news from your part of the world - I hope you are well.

Be a real UNIX guy and get the latest and best from here: http://www.isc.org/index.pl

It's an easy build and these are the guys who invented and maintain BIND, DNS, and DHCPD. This is one of the few products for which I don't use the HP supplied versions.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

I'm fine, not being shelled here, we have confidence our forces will deal with it.

Clay - Yes - but sometimes you have to weigh being a real unix guy and support - The bind you get from HP is supported by HP (Same as CIFS Server) - but if you compile your own, then you are generally on your own. :)

Re: BIND 9.2 for HP-UX 11.00

Being a "real unix guy" is tempting, but this is a production server and the people in authority prefer supported software.

Steven - I'm glad you're not being shelled. My relief at that deserves 10 points! Besides, last time you did a congratulations thread you gave me 5 when I asked for a maximum of 3!

Re: BIND 9.2 for HP-UX 11.00

Well for wimps (or those that want to point to a piece of paper for their bosses), ISC does offer full support and I'm willing to bet that with respect to BIND and DHCPD it is second to none. On the other hand, if I had a problem with software for which I had all the source code, I would hang my head in shame if I couldn't find the problem.

In real life, I have used the ISC versions for many years and it has actually helped me solve problems that would have taken at least months to resolve had I had to wait for a UNIX vendor to release the latest version.

Re: BIND 9.2 for HP-UX 11.00

And speaking of support, Mark I'm sure you are aware that 11.0 is EOF Dec31, 2006:

I myself have 2 x 11.0 servers left - one will be shut off soon and the other is in a migration to 11.23.
