Re: bkup
usually using ignite-ux, for a complete backup You'll have to find out how many volume groups are in your system and use the include_entire_vg-flag for make_tape_recovery.
please look at the man page!
If You want a complete (network-aware, differentials) backup tool, please have a look at bacula
(binaries at http://deranfangvomen.de/~floh/bacula/ ), but I'm not sure You want to start setting this up now.

yesterday I stood at the edge. Today I'm one step ahead.

Solution
I would recommend a 2 method approach:
1) Install Ignite/UX and do weekly make_tape_recovery tapes of your VG00. This will allow you to quickly rebuild your OS if it is ever necessary.
2) Using fbackup ('man fbackup' for details) or some other product (like Data Protector, Legato Networker, Veritas Backup Exec, etc) do weekly FULL backups of all data on the system, and daily incremental backups so you pick up the changes for that day.
Now if you have Oracle, or some other database, you should look into doing HOT backups of your database. Oracle has several tools that can help you do this. The main one is called RMAN and it can interface with things like Networker, Data Protector, etc.
If you don't have Oracle, check the utilities that your DB has available to help with backups.

Re: bkup
You can use fbackup command.
Example:
fbackup -f /dev/rmt/0m -i /home
(to back up the entire contents of /home to the device file /dev/rmt/0m)
For detailed information, please look at the following link:

Re: bkup
By the way, I do NOT recommend using Ignite/UX (make_tape_recovery) as a general full-system backup tool. That is not what it was designed for. It was designed to recover the OS (VG00) in time of emergency.
Backing up other VG's with it is not a good idea. Use other, more appropriate, tools for other VG's.
