blocking call cancelled--FTP login

blocking call cancelled--FTP login

How can I fix this error. I can login to FTP but users at other locations on our network can't. Please advise. This happens from time to time and a reboot has fixed it in the past. I would just like to know what is causing this.

Re: blocking call cancelled--FTP login

What kind of error message are they receiving?

What version of the OS is your server at?

Are you using anonymous or user account logins?

Is the network solid or flaky?

Re: blocking call cancelled--FTP login

Hi Kathlenn,

If the system is behind a firewall, increase the timeout on the firewall for the connection to stay. This could be a timeout problem.

Hope this helps.

Re: blocking call cancelled--FTP login

Hello,
I assume you are using software like WS-FTP to do the ftp.
//*
The "Blocking call canceled" error can be helped in the WS_FTP Pro classic interface by selecting the Use Passive Transfer Mode checkbox on the Session tab of the Options dialog box, and clicking the Set As Default button. You can also use the Advanced Tab of Session Properties to do the following: Select Passive Transfers and increase the Network Timeout setting to 120. Note that you must save your changes by clicking the Apply button!

In the WS_FTP Pro Explorer interface, the "Blocking call canceled" error can be helped by selecting the Advanced tab of the Site Properties, selecting Passive Transfers, and increasing the Network Timeout setting to 120.
*//
Just try to do a command line ftp from your windows or unix machine to test the proper connnectivity.

Thanks

Re: blocking call cancelled--FTP login

Kathleen,

does the file /etc/ftpd/ftpgroups exist? More on this file can be found in "man ftpgroups".

Re: blocking call cancelled--FTP login

Kathleen,

Make sure your system is up to date in patches.

Are you using /etc/ftpd/ftpaccess?

grep -i ftp /etc/inetd.conf

what ftp are the clients using?

Re: blocking call cancelled--FTP login

grep -i ftp /etc/inetd.conf gives the result of.....
ftp stream tcp nowait root /usr/lbin/ftpd ftpd -L -a -u 133

Users are using WS_FTP LE or the like. I tried passive mode and increasing the network timeout.

We are using ftpaccess. Are there things I could check in there?

We did some patching in August. Is there something specific I should put on this machine that might help?
