Boot helper in Ignite , General question

Dear Collegues,
I have a setup of ignite server and i am happily igniting both PA/IA server which are there in the same subnet.
Now i have 8 more server which are in different subnet and i am also able to ignite them using one of them as boot helper. Now igniting same Server again and agian is our regular process (that is the way we work).

That is also fine now the question is i am wasting one machine as BH out of it. Can i run BottHelper on Solaris or NT machine's????

And if yes, How?

thanks in advance,
Bharat

Re: Boot helper in Ignite , General question

Hi Bharat,

Sorry no way, there is no version of ignite boot helper for other Unix/intelbased flavours.

Kind regards,

Re: Boot helper in Ignite , General question

Robert it talks about ignte server. i understand it is not possible but Boot Helper is just a gateway to Ignite server so possibly there could be another way of doing it.

Re: Boot helper in Ignite , General question

Hi Bharat,

From the Ignite Admin Guide,

----

Setting Up the Boot Helper

Follow these steps to setup and use a system on a remote subnet to allow a client to do a network boot and then contact a remote Ignite-UX server:

Task: Setting Up a 10.x or 11.x Helper

1. Install the Ignite-UX minimum core functionality onto the helper system:

swinstall -s /dev/rmt/0m Ignite-UX.BOOT-KERNEL

2. On the helper, run the following command to point the INSTALLFS at the correct Ignite-UX server:
/opt/ignite/bin/instl_adm -t Ignite-UX_server_IP

----

The problem is there are no Minimum Ignite software releases for other OS's.

Re: Boot helper in Ignite , General question

Hi Bharat

Boot Helper must be HP-UX machine. you can't use solaris or NT box as boot helper
