Re: Boot HP-UX from XP256
Check the previous discussion regarding booting from EMC.

Re: Boot HP-UX from XP256
If the boot disk fails while in the XP256, you will need a lot more work and time to bring the system back up.
Having the boot disk separate, like in a Jamica box, enables you to replace the bad disk with little time and effort involved. The Jamica is hot-plug so you would not need to bring the device down to plug in a new disk

Re: Boot HP-UX from XP256
Just to make the balance, I have 2 K system that boot on HDS subsystems and several D class with mirrored boot disks (hot swap utra-or-diff-scsi) with HDS subsystem for the rdbms apps and data,
which have best performance?
Why?
The os-overhead of mirror-ux seems to make the difference, compared to the externalized RAID5 on the subsystem controller, so I agree with Rick partially: I boot on the subsystem but still have an internal alternate in case of bad trip (never happened yet) and in any case when things go wrong with subsystem its not a lun but an array that crashes so your going for big work anyway with internal or externalized boot...
To answer the question I have not heard of patches nor firmware for such option.
Best regards
Victor
