Boot PA-RISC System through Ignite backup taken from Itanium System

Hi,

We are getting the following error while trying to restore the ignite tape backup of Itanium System to a PA-RISC System.

* Checking configuration for consistency...

* Loading configuration user interface, please wait...
ERROR: Could not find filename: "INSTCMDS" in lif volume
ERROR: Tar: blocksize = 0; broken pipe?
ERROR: File: /usr/ccs not found.
ERROR: File: /usr/obam not found.
ERROR: File: /usr/lib/nls not found.
ERROR: File: /opt/ignite/bin not found.
ERROR: File: /opt/ignite/ui not found.
ERROR: File: /opt/ignite/help not found.
loadfile command failed, retry? ([y]/n):

First i have tried to start the PA-RISC Server (rp4440) with tape but it is failed then tried the method by booting the server with HP UNIX 11.31 OS DVD and select tape as the source.

Verification completed successfully. The error started while restoring the image in to the disk.

Thanks and resgards,
Manoj K

Thanks and Regards,

Hello,

Maybe you have a corrupted media (bad tape)?

This would not work. The hardware architecture is different.

Re: Boot PA-RISC System through Ignite backup taken from Itanium System

Manoj,

This has as much chance of working as trying to boot a backup of an AIX server on a PA-RISC box... incompatible architectures - why would you expect this to work??? What were you atcually trying to acheive?

It's not gonna do it. Totally different cpus.

Re: Boot PA-RISC System through Ignite backup taken from Itanium System

This cannot work, because your tape has the Itanium binaries, but your server needs the RISC binaries.

Hope this helps!

Hey;

Just in case you haven't gotten the idea yet, you can't clone a itanium system onto a pa-risc system because the cpus use different architectures...

Just thought I'd go for the whole redundant thing...

Re: Boot PA-RISC System through Ignite backup taken from Itanium System

Shalom Manoj K,

I built the Ignite infrastructure here.

I have 11.31 Itanium Ignite servers. They service PA-RISC images. You can only restore Ignite images PA-RISC to PA-RISC systems.

The real difference is the -I command which stands alone on an Itanium boot. You need to give the full path of the boot image when booting a PA-RISC system.
