My Server model was HP server rp5470

How can i get into single user mode. I have try this before.

At,
To discontinue, press any key within 10 seconds."

then,
Main Menu: Enter command or menu > bo pri

After I enter, the message stuck there.

What shall I do. Did I type a right command or the command was a

Re: Boot single user mode

After you type 'bo pri', the system will prompt you 'interact with ipl?'

Answer with 'y'.

The prompt be:

ISL>

Type 'hpux -is'

that will put you into single user mode.

Hope that helps

Re: Boot single user mode

I've try it. but it stuck at

Main Menu: Enter command or menu > bo pri

nothing come afterward. There is no prompt "interact with ipl".

Is it take a long time after I enter "bo pri" or it just hung at the "bo pri"

Re: Boot single user mode

select sea from the BCH. This will search for all devices on the system. then "bo P0 or P1 or P2.. for your boot device then answer yes to interact with IPL and then hpux -is.

I am assuming your primary boot device is either not set to the right device or something is wrong with your boot device.

Has this server ever been rebooted before ? If so the primary should be right but you never know.

One big question is why reboot every Monday?

Re: Boot single user mode

Hi Surizan Othman,
From the following command you can find out server has boot from which disk.
# echo "boot_string/S" | adb -k /stand/vmunix /dev/kmem
Then you can set the primary boot path using the setboot command.

Re: Boot single user mode

on a RP box

press the any key within 10 seconds

Main Menu: enter the command or menu> bo pri

It should ask you whether you want to interact with the ISL. Say Yes

ISL> hpux -is

that should boot you in single user mode unless your OS is configured to not let you.

Re: Boot single user mode

hi surizan,

`bo pri` shld got you covered.

if you go to bch again, run the following to scan for devices.
> sea

It will take a long time. Let it finish. If you confirm p0 is your OS disk, then choose p0.
> bo p0

If the disk is ok, it should prompt you with ISL. From there boot to single user mode
ISL> hpux -is

If booting p0 is not responsive. It may indicate you have prob with that disk. If vg00 is mirrored, mirrored the second disk. You accomplish disk by perform this at bch:

> bo alt

really appreciate if u cld assign some points if this answers you question. Thanks!

Re: Boot single user mode

If you stop the boot process and boot manually, you see this menu

Main Menu: Enter command or menu > bo pri
Interact with IPL (Y, N, or Cancel)?>

Because this is coming from the firmware, a hardware problem is very unlikely.

The problem may be caused by the terminal emulator I guess. What are you using?

You may try reseting the terminal to default values or (if you are using a PC) give putty a try.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: Boot single user mode

This is how I connect to my HP Server via console.

Console cable connected to HP compaq t5000 and console card attached to HP rp5470. Console card had two connection (one is seem like parallel and another was network port).Mine connected to parallel.

I connect to Hp server via HP Connection Administration software preinstalled in HP Compaq t5000. My console login was

GenericSysName [HP Release B.11.11] (see /etc/issue)

How can I reset the terminal and what is default value for IP, username and password.

Re: Boot single user mode

Hi Surizan Othman,
Your console login is not a different login in to the server. You can use your username and passwd for login through this console. For MP lan port, you have to configure with ip address

Re: Boot single user mode

Hi,

How can I configure MP lan port. How can I add IP address

Re: Boot single user mode

Hi Surizan,
On GSB prompt type the Command lc. You will be asked to configure that Lan port. Also help command lists the commands which you can use in that prompt.

What disks are bootable?

Main Menu: Enter command or menu > sea ipl

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: Boot single user mode

Do you still have the problem of the forgotten root password or what is the current problem?

Hope this helps!

Sorry, not reboot. Force reboot by switch off power. That's the only way

Re: Boot single user mode

hi,

Seems that you will have to do the "forced reboot" by switch off power and during the restart interact with the ISL so that you can get into single user so as to change the root password.

Before you do this, ensure that you have shutdown all applications (e.g. application servers, databases, etc)..

NB. at the ISL prompt, boot to single user mode using:
ISL> hpux -is

Good luck!

kind regards
yogeeraj

Re: Boot single user mode

Why at

Main Menu: Enter command or menu >

for any command i type and enter either command is "bo pri" , "boot pri" or "sea"

It just stuck like that. No prompt afterward

Is it just take long time or something bad happened
Torsten.

Re: Boot single user mode

You say the prompt does not come back but the system is still able to boot?

I really think this is a problem with your terminal emulator.

Try to connect a laptop using a null modem cable and use putty (0.60) and try this.

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Boot single user mode

Torsten:

Thanks for your quick reply, can you tell me a step by step guide. I think it might be a problem with my terminal emulator. How can I use a laptop instead. Can you provide me a step- by step guideline. I'm not familiar with hp-ux, this is my first time I has to administer a Hp-UX,. Treat me as a dummy then
