Boot tape for recovery on ITANIUM

How can I boot from tape ( for a restore of a make_tape_recovery backup ) on an Itanium based server ( rx2600 ) ?

Is it possible from the EFI shell without the installation cd?
Is possible in the EFI shell make the tape driver viewable?
Now I can only see 2 Scsi disks and the DVD.

Or is only possible to boot tape by entering first with the hpux installation CD ?

Thanks to all

Re: Boot tape for recovery on ITANIUM

You can boot to an ignite tape from the shell.

To show devices:

map -r

Then to boot the tape do:

fsn:\install.efi

where fsn is the device to boot from.

Re: Boot tape for recovery on ITANIUM

Hi Alessandro,

I only know the procedure using the install media, so there seems to be no chance to restore without the installation cd/dvd.
IMHO EFI is not able to handle a tape.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: Boot tape for recovery on ITANIUM

I wasn't clear in my first post. You want to boot from the install CD/DVD first, from the EFI shell. Then, you can select the Tape device as the install source from the ignite menus.

It is not possible to boot directly from tape from the EFI menu.
