Boot time problem
I have C160 Visualize workstation and I am using HP-UX 11.0 version on it.
At the time of startup system does not give me message " To discontinue press any key within 10 seconds". I would like to reinstall O/S. Can someone help me out, why this problem happen and how can I resolve it?
Thanks

Re: Boot time problem
I don't know about C160 Visualize workstation, but for some systems' boot sequence interruption is keyboard-driven, such as 700 series systems. The following steps is to stop boot up:
1. Remove/disable the hard disk drive.
2. Reboot system.
3. The system will prompt that it cannot find a boot device.
4. You may Press the Esc key.
5. In admin mode, you can disable "secure mode".
6. To stop the boot sequence by pressing the escape key.
(step 1-5 is to disable secure mode, step 6 is to stop boot up)
You may try to see.
Hope it helps.

Re: Boot time problem
It sounds as if your system has been configured for Secure-Boot.
The only way I know to bypass this is to temporarily unplug the SCSI cable from the boot disk, and then power the machine back up.
This will cause the boot to fail, and you should be presented with the service processor menu. From here, you can change the boot-up options and then boot manually from your installation source.

Rgds,
Paul.

Re: Boot time problem
I might be able to help with the why part.
in the boot console interface, in the configuration menu, is an item for security mode.
do display secure
to change secure on|off
when the secure flag is set to on, autoboot and autoseach are enabled and can not be stopped. the system boots from the default boot paths regards of user intervention.
not really sure how to get to the boot menu if secure mode is on. but it might come up if no boot device is found, i.e. disconnect all bootable devices including the internal drives.
