Re: Bootimage??

Hi,

do you have another HP-UX-System ?
If yes you could connect the disk (take care for the right SCSI-ID) to the other system and mount the disk to recover you files.

Re: Bootimage??

No, I have'nt. It's an HP 715/80.
But I have an Suse Linux 7.0 System, is that possible that i can install the disk in this machine, without damage the existing files and bootsystem?
Thanks!

Re: Bootimage??

No, you wont be able to stick it on a linux system and see the data on it.

You wont be able to mount it on an HP-UX 10 or 11 server as the filesystem layout is different.

You need an HP-UX 9.07 Recovery CD or DDS tape which you can boot from and either then mount your disk and access the data or reinstall the boot area to it so you can boot off it. Problem is the 9.07 media is very very old. You need to contact your HP rep and ask him to get it for you.

Re: Bootimage??

Hi,

i don't know if you can mount a HP-UX filesystem to a linux box, perhaps anyone else knows.

Re: Bootimage??

Hi,

i disagree with Edward.
It is possible to mount a 9.x disk filesystem to a 10.20.
I have done this on my workstation with success.

Re: Bootimage??

Thanks for your reply, but i haven't another system with hpux and can't find any disks. The System is 7 years old.
What's the quickest and cheapest way to recover my files?
Can i download the Recover CD anywhere?
What capabilities i have?

This forum great and fast. The best thing i've ever seen.
Thx in advance.

Re: Bootimage??

Hi,

you say your boot partition is damaged.
How far do you get when you boot ?
Perhaps there is a litle chance to come into single user mode.

Re: Bootimage??

I get to the logon screen and then i get the message "It has an error accoured". And then the system hang up.
Thats unexplanable.

Solution

Re: Bootimage??

Hi,

try this:

When turning power on interrupt the boot sequence by holding the [Escape] - key until a menu appears.
Then type
b scsi.6 isl
(the example above assumes your disk has scsi-id 6)
After that you should get a prompt
ISL>
Now type
hpux -is boot
This should boot into single user mode.
If this does yu could try walking though the filesystem

Re: Bootimage??

Hi,

i'm very happy to solve your problem - thanks.
As you can see (read) my english is also not so perfect. Of course i could write in german but then the other peers around the would are not able to participate from this discussion. So i do my best to write the things in english.
