booting from CD
I assume booting from CD is like booting to single user mode right??
1. BO P0
2. hpux -isl
How do I mount the original "/" from harddrive after booting up from CD??
Sorry, one more question. Will I be able to get a HP-UX OS kit from CDW (etc.)?? Or do I have to get it from HP direct??

Re: booting from CD
Load the CD.
Interrupt the Auto boot process
From the BCH menu do a SEArch to find your CD hardware path.
e.g.
From the prompt use > Boot 8/16/5.2
WHat is is you are really trying to do? (install a new system?)

Re: booting from CD
When you boot from the CD, you really DON'T want to interact with the boot process. So just do a 'BO P0' (or whatever your CD is) and say 'N' when asked about interacting.
To get to your original '/' you will have to select 'Boot an HP-UX Recovery Kernel' (or whatever is close) from the menu that comes up after you boot from the CD. I believe that there are instructions on how to mount something from your original boot disk at this point.

Re: booting from CD
To figure out which device is the cd rom
interrupt the boot at the console.
Type sea
hit enter.
Watch what comes up.
Usually the last random access device is the cdrom, at least on servers.
A sequential device is most likely a tape drive.
If the CD is P16, then the command is BO P16
Interacting with the IPL is a pain unless you need to be in single user mode.
You can run a recovery shell from the original media, copy a temporary kernel, get a head start on fixing almost everything.
Good luck.
