Booting from DVD on J5000

Hi,

I have just installed a Plextor DVD Writer in my J5000 workstation and it can read DVD's fine. I have mounted several and copied files from them.

I now want to do a cold install of HP-UX 11i version 1 from DVD. I have placed the install DVD in the drive and stopped the workstation at the PDC and issued the command "sea". This returns the SCSI hard drives in the system but does not show the DVD drive. The DVD drive is an IDE drive so there are no SCSI ID conflicts. The system is running firmware version 5.

Can anyone offer a suggestion as to why the drive is not showing up as a boot device?

Thanx

Kris

Hi

You can try "sea all" command and have you inserted the dvd in the dvd drive

Re: Booting from DVD on J5000

Try specifying the path. For example:

bo 10/0/14/0.0.0

Re: Booting from DVD on J5000

I tried specifying the path but that didn't work. I put a CD drive in and it found the drive when I issued a sea. I know the DVD drive works as I've had it working in the system. For some reason it just won't find it as a boot device.

Re: Booting from DVD on J5000

Look like it is a sector size problem. I need a drive that can support a 512byte sector size on power up.

Thanks for everyones suggestions.
