breaking root passwd in HP UX 11i

I want to break root passwd in HPUX 11i

I went in single user mode and tried to change the passwd it is asking for old passwd.
I nullified the passwd entry in /etc/psswd file
still it is asking for old passwd.

Customer has forgotten the root passwd .so kindkly give some info regarding this .

Re: breaking root passwd in HP UX 11i

Hi,

Trusted system ?

# cd /tcb/files/auth/r/

and then delete the actual encrypted password from the root file.

Hope this helps,

Re: breaking root passwd in HP UX 11i

hi,

i think you are having TCB (trusted system ) in your server.boot in single user mode.go to /tcb/files/auth/r ,you can see one root file in that.edit the file
you can see something like following

root:u_name=root:u_id#0:\
:u_pwd=mnDiTk:\
:u_bootauth:u_auditid#0:\
:u_auditflag#0:\

remove the entry between = and : in the u_pwd line.in this case mnDiTk.after that it should look like this

root:u_name=root:u_id#0:\
:u_pwd=:\
:u_bootauth:u_auditid#0:\
:u_auditflag#0:\

then try to change passwd
