btlan3 error messages

Greetings all,

Ive been getting this error message in my syslog file for the last couple of weeks,

vmunix: btlan3: NOTE: MII Link Status Not OK - Check Cable Connection to Hub/Switch at 0/0/0/0....

I have changed the cable and im still getting the error message. Ive tried to do a search for this error message and im not coming up with anything. (but im quite sure there is something out there)

Any ideas?

Cheers
Maria

Re: btlan3 error messages

Are you uptodate on these patches ?
- Cumulative ARPA transport patch
- LAN product cumulative patch
If not you may want to load them. What about on the switch or hub, has there been any changes in its setting ? I've seen the error before on my older machine (I70) and it was due to the CAT5 cable. How frequent does the error appear in your syslog.log (or dmesg) ?

Re: btlan3 error messages

Hi Maria,

As well as patches etc, you might also utilise the 'lanadmin' utility to see if there is anything significant in the way of late collisions packets etc. Check to make sure no changes have been done on your network ports in regards to auto-sensing/duplexing.

Re: btlan3 error messages

hi,

thanks for getting back to me.

Ive been getting them quite often, which is concerning.

There have been no changes to the switch and the switch reports no error messages. So i am assuming that it is fine.

I haven't installed any patches as of yet. I will try that and see how i go.

cheers dude.

Re: btlan3 error messages

Please check the latest patches installed on your system.

PHNE_22244 1.0 Built-in PCI 100BASE-T patch
PHNE_22245 1.0 PCI 100B(Tx/Fx)cumulative patch
PHNE_22728 1.0 4 port PCI 100BASE-T cumulative patch

Make sure that you do not have duplex mismatch for both ends.
Also make sure that the speed on both the ends are equal with auto_neg ---off

Thanks
